The 2004 event saw the introduction of some new elements to the UK challenge scene, influenced by the experiences of some of the organisers in the Australian Outback Challenge competition. Compulsory camping was introduced with all teams having to carry their camping equipment and all their spares and tools throughout the competition.
The event started with a night section at Helmsley on Friday night with a full day’s competition at Helmsley on Saturday. On Saturday evening the teams drove their vehicles to the camp site near Duns. On the way to Duns a number of special sections had been set out that the teams were to complete before continuing their journey. Many of the teams didn’t make it to the camping area until the very early hours of the morning !
Sunday’s competition saw the teams competing at a number of sites in and around Duns.
